About the Treatment Process

Your water is treated at the Westfield Avenue Treatment Plant, where it is pumped into an aeration system that removes volatile organic compounds. We then add coagulants and polymer to remove any silt or small particles.
The water then slowly flows through two sedimentation basins where the particulate matter settles out. Water is filtered through sand, anthracite and activated charcoal to remove any remaining particles and improve taste. We then add liquid chlorine to destroy bacteria and a corrosion inhibitor to prevent copper or lead from dissolving into your drinking water. Finally, fluoride is added and optimized to promote oral health by strengthening tooth enamel.
