Our teams work around the clock, rigorously testing and monitoring the entire distribution system so you never have to think twice when you pour yourself a glass of water.

70% of your water supply comes from underground wells, while the remaining 30% is surface water drawn from the Boise River. Before it reaches the tap, the water is treated to meet safe drinking water standards.
There are several different treatment processes for the water in your area. Groundwater, drawn from underground wells, is treated with small amounts of chlorine to protect against potentially harmful microorganisms in the water. At 9 of the wells, we add low doses of polyphosphate to isolate iron and manganese and keep your water clear. Surface water, drawn from the Boise River, is treated at two plants. The Marden Water Treatment Plant is a direct filtration plant. The treatment process includes dual-media filtration to remove particulate matter. In addition, we adjust the pH to reduce the corrosivity of the water. The Columbia Water Treatment Plant is a membrane plant that does not require pre-treatment and uses ultrafiltration to remove particulate matter. At both plants, chlorine is added to disinfect the water prior to release into the distribution system.
