Veolia Welcomes New Customers Following $18 Million Acquisition of the Allendale Water System in New Jersey

Customers Will Benefit from $26 Million in Water Quality and Service Reliability Improvements

Haworth, NJ  –  Veolia North America announced that it has acquired the Borough of Allendale’s water system and its assets for $18 million. The company’s latest acquisition in New Jersey adds 7,000 residents and businesses to the 1.6 million people the company serves across the state.

“We are excited to welcome Allendale residents to Veolia,” said Alan Weland, Vice President and General Manager of Veolia’s New Jersey Operations. “We appreciate the confidence they have placed in us to provide exceptional drinking water and excellent service.”

Veolia’s engineering and operations teams are already preparing essential improvements to the system. The company plans to invest $26 million over ten years in the borough. Projects will include water main refurbishments and replacements, water supply resiliency improvements, technology upgrades, lead service line replacements and the need for a treatment system for regulated PFAS, human-made chemicals commonly used in industrial and manufacturing applications.

“Our work will ensure our new customers will enjoy safe water and reliable service for generations to come,” Weland said.

At a ceremony to transfer the system to Veolia, Councilwoman Liz Homan, chair of the Allendale Water Committee, spoke of the challenges faced by municipal systems and why that led them to Veolia. “The delivery of safe drinking water has become a very regulated, technical business and Allendale is fortunate to have Veolia provide affordable, quality water to Allendale residents,” she said.

New customers benefit from Veolia’s expertise and dedication

Veolia and Allendale have enjoyed a long partnership, with the company providing half the borough’s water and operating the system under contract for more than a decade. As Allendale faced the need to make significant improvements to remain in compliance with water quality standards, residents voted in favor of Veolia’s acquisition of the Allendale system.

“We have been expanding in New Jersey because municipalities and small independent operators are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain their facilities and meet today’s health, safety and environmental regulations,” Weland said. “They are turning to Veolia because they know the company has the expertise, the experience and the resources to transform systems and services while maintaining affordable rates.

“We are proud of our continued growth in New Jersey and proud of how residents like our newest customers in Allendale benefit from our commitment to them.”
